My career didn't start with spreadsheets — it started with a skateboard. I opened my first business, a skateboard shop, driven by a passion for the sport I've carried my whole life. Skateboarding teaches you something no business school can: how to fall, get back up, and find a better line.
Over three decades, I worked my way through every level of retail — from the floor to store management to the C-suite. Along the way, I watched technology transform the landscape. Big companies built analytics departments, hired data scientists, launched sophisticated websites, and automated their operations. They stopped guessing and started knowing.
Smaller businesses didn't get that advantage. They were still running on instinct and experience — which is valuable, but they were leaving money on the table because they didn't have access to the same tools.
